Dawn's review: Rock of Ages

Hi everyone!! Guest movie reviewer here, it’s me Dawn crashing Arnie’s movie review page…yo! Well let me start off with the negatives about this movie because there weren’t many at all! One – it started off a little slow and Two – Julianne Hough, many of you probably know her best as Ryan Seacrests girlfriend and I gotta say after seeing her in Footloose I wasn’t impressed AT ALL with her acting and the same goes for this movie. She is basically this gal from Oklahoma who comes to Hollywood to live out her dream as a singer and falls in love with this dude who also has a dream to be a singer, he is pretty darn hot and can act pretty good, so you see their love story and their struggle to make it in Hollywood unfold throughout the movie…. This girl CAN’T act, it’s just sad to watch her try but she’s pretty with a great body and her singing is for sure better than her acting. I really don’t know how she is getting these roles other than she is Ryan Seacrests girlfriend and that’s got to be getting her in the door!
Now onto the fun part and that would be the positives of this flick!! It’s really an all around fun movie, the music is great!!! I would say I listen to country music 99 percent of the time but after seeing this movie as soon as we got in the car I put on some good ole rock from the 80’s! If you were into rock in the 80’s this movie will for sure take you back and remind you of all the fun you had rocken out and partying hard. There really isn’t a deep meaning or message to the movie , I guess if there had to be it would be about love, friendship and staying true to your dreams. Alec Baldwin is awesome, he is a club owner trying to save his once hot spot club for 80’s rock bands, he shares most of his scenes with Russell Brand who surprisingly did pretty darn good Russell is basically Alec’s right hand man sort of speak you will have to see the movie to see what ends up playing out for these two which was pretty great. Catherine Zeta Jones is this uptight Mayor’s wife hell bent to save Los Angeles from this devil club and especially save the youth from Stacee Jaxx played by Tom Cruise and onto Tom Cruise….
WOW!! No seriously wow Tom Cruise was surprisingly awesome as legend rock star Stacee Jaxx. I am no fan of Tom Cruise but he had me loving him in this movie. He’s a rock star turned diva, hard to work with, not reliable and a bit out there mentally. But since Alec Baldwin’s club was the place that skyrocketed his career he comes to do a gig and crap he was freaken fantabulous he just killed it singing Def Leopard, Jon Bon Jovi and Journey. He made his character an ass, enduring and kooky all at once and his monkey Hey Man steals the show during his scenes. If you loved 80’s rock and wouldn’t mind seeing the music played out in a musical and you are looking for a light hearted fun movie you gotta see Rock of Ages!!! I for sure give this movie a Happy Face!!
