Rob's German Shepherd's Summer Vacation 2009
Shep & Nelly Stay At Dog Woods Resort
August 18th, 2009

As we revealed last year, when my wife and I travel, our German Shepherds either stay home and guard the house, or we sometimes leave Shep and Nellie in Garden Valley, CA, deep in the woods nestled between Auburn and El Dorado hills past the famous Forest Hill Bridge (most recently used in the Vin Diesel film “XXX).

By popular demand after months of badgering by dozens of loyal listeners, we happily revealed Shep and Nellie’s oasis in the forest and your response has been overwhelming! It’s called Dog Woods Resort. Owner and operator Theresa (and her sister Helen) are soooooo thrilled with all of the RAD listeners who have contacted them and so are Janell and I! It truly is the greatest place in the world for your dogs! Dog Woods can be reached at 530-333-2117. Or check out their website, www.dog-woodsresort.com

Last month my wife Janell and I went off to Monterey for a week and decided to give Shep and Nellie a week of play at their favorite resort. These pictures were all taken on their last day and are a really funny snapshot of how dogs work. Watch our boy, Shep take control and at as the perfect gentleman:

This is the main entrance and front free yard area of Dogwoods, where most of the dogs are introduced to one another. On this day, two new arrivals, Gustie the short hair pointer and Caprice the Great Dane, showed up.

After plenty of sniffing, watch as Shep leads the way to show the new arrivals their new temporary home.

Shep leads the way into Gustie and Caprice’s private yard. Each dog get’s their own fenced in full acre and Shep is happy to show them around.

All of the dogs spend a few minutes looking around the area…

…And then tour guide Shep takes the new dogs into their private cabin area. Each one has pillows and toys and is fully enclosed from the elements. Shep gives them a brief personal tour and then leads them back out to the play area.

They call it the play area so that the dogs can play!
