Rob’s Notes/Excuses: I haven’t been this frustrated and angry on a golf course in a long time. Somehow I didn’t break anything or throw any clubs…well, maybe one club. I had all of the parts of my game working but couldn’t put them together at any one time. When I drove the ball great, my approach shots were horrible; when my approach shots were great, I missed 3 foot putts. I’m taking next weekend off and hoping for a turnaround.

Rob’s Notes/Excuses: WOW what a horrible day of golf. There were some sparkling moments as evidenced by my two birdies and a whole lot of bad moments as evidenced by my lack of one single par. While clearly my mechanics sucked, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one thing; we love Whitney Oaks but the course is not in good shape right now, to the tune of almost making it a links style layout. The fairways are dry and hard and more than a half dozen shots that should have remained in play found their way OB in this round, which is unacceptable when it is not consistent with the design of the course.

Rob’s Notes/Excuses: As we fight off the horrors of daylight savings, we’re forced to tee off while it is still dark just to get out by 7am and home for football…this means no warm up on the driving range which is against my usual routine and my game seems to suffer as a result in the early holes. Rob’s Notes/Excuses: I have another actual excuse this week…I was at Pat Martin’s party Saturday night! For those of you who don’t know, Pat does middays at 98 ROCK in Sacramento and threw a party Saturday that was filled with alcohol and beef. Alas, I awoke Saturday with a beef/alcohol hangover! This was our special round of golf with listener Jason, who called the show in July to report his 3 year battle with brain cancer (which he continues to fight today). His one wish was that we would play golf with his brother, Eric, who joined us along with Jason and Eric’s wife Kim, and Dawn (all in the gallery) as we played. Jason had to head back to the room early to stay out of the heat, but we had a great day and really enjoyed the course and Eric and Kim. Dawn, we did not enjoy so much.

Rob’s Notes/Excuses: I had never seen the course before and was very impressed. It’s amazing the way you can take a horrendously ugly part of California (a freak of nature in and of itself) and carve out of it a gorgeous casino, hotel and golf course. The layout is challenging yet fair and plays to all skill levels. Golfing with listeners and a small gallery gave me a few nerves on the first holes but once I settled down and remembered that I was better than everybody else, I hit the ball really well and enjoyed the course and the day.
